10-year dilemma: Severely maltreated maid escapes abusive Pinay employer, refuses ‘arreglo’
A maltreated housemaid on Sunday finally made that great escape — after ten years of being detained and maltreated by her abusive employer in Novaliches, Quezon City.
Levelyn said she experienced being pinched on different parts of her body; mostly on her face and groin area. She was also whacked by her employer numerous times with a piece of wood, sometimes with a hose, and on other instances her head was bumped against a concrete wall, kicked, and scratched on the face. There was also a time her face was pressed with an extremely hot flat iron. She had also experienced being strangled until she choked.
Moreover, she was also made to eat spoiled food.
Her sleeping quarters was a stockroom, and her room buddies were empty bottles, cockroaches, and mosquitoes. A carton served as her bed. Her door, and the doors of the house were always locked, especially if her bosses are not around for a day or even a week.
Her dilemma, she said, spanned ten years, and she was unable to see an opportunity to escape until now.
But on September 10, somehow, she managed to escape from the hellish domain when her employer’s family were out.
According to Levelyn, she took the backdoor exit of the house. She proceeded to her laundry lady friend and asked for P200, just enough fare for her trip home to Taytay. Sadly, her friend had no cash at the time, but a woman passerby who saw her bloody face immediately helped her and took her to the barangay hall.
According to Levelyn’s sister, Marites, it was 2007 when Levelyn started working for her employers in Novaliches. They never saw Levelyn ever again, and only kept in touch via phone calls, but they had no idea that every time they are talking with their sister, the evil employers were beside Levelyn; listening, threatening.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar, District Director of Quezon City Police District promised to help Levelyn until justice is achieved. They conducted a follow-up operation at the employer’s residence, but the suspect/s were not found.
The employer may soon be facing charges of physical injuries and also violation of “Kasambahay Law”, said Eleazar. They are also thinking of other possible cases like illegal detention. He also mentioned that the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) is willing to help.
Marites said that on Monday, her employer went to their house and offered financial settlement. Their family declined the offer.
When they declined, a relative of the employers who introduced himself as a policeman threatened them, and about eight men stepped out from a van, as if searching for something, or someone? Yes, they were allegedly looking for Levelyn.
Marites said their family will pursue the charges until death. And as for Levelyn, there is only one thing she wants: justice. She wants her employers jailed.According to Levelyn’s sister, Marites, it was 2007 when Levelyn started working for her employers in Novaliches.
